Focused on normalising the discussion of mental health in the workplace
What is #happyheads?
We started small, doing weekly walks, board games and quizzes at the office to help improve our own mental wellbeing, but this has grown into something much bigger.
Since starting the project in March 2020, we have succeeded in raising both money and awareness for some great mental health charities.
Why did we start #happyheads?
When planning our #happyheads campaign, we wanted to make sure that we had some clear objectives to work towards.
Shortly after launching our campaign, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and we transitioned to working from home. The “workplace” became different for all of us, and we faced the added challenge of finding ways to stay mentally healthy whilst working remotely. It became an additional objective for us to support each other through this strange and difficult time.
To support and improve the Dolia team’s mental health.
To raise awareness of the importance of mental health in the workplace.
To support and raise money for mental health charities.
What have we achieved so far?
Despite the obstacle of COVID-19, we have managed to achieve a great deal! One of our greatest achievements is our happy heads Morning Marathon. We not only ran (or walked) just over 46km collectively, but we also raised £450 for mental health charity Mind, smashing our £200 target!
As well as raising money for charity, we have been able to support each other’s mental health throughout the pandemic, connecting online through Teams or Zoom calls and quizzes, and meeting up for socially distanced walks.
To add to this, we’ve supported our friends and family through acts of kindness, like our “Dolia Creations” during Mental Health Awareness Week. In everything we do for happy heads, we are raising awareness of the importance of mental health.
What else are we aiming to achieve?
As we are still in the early stages of our happy heads journey, there is so much more that we want to achieve.
In the near future, we look forward to supporting various mental health organisations in the valuable work that they do. One event on the horizon is the Three Peaks Challenge, which Joe is planning to do for a couple of good causes, including a mental health charity.
Perhaps more importantly, we look forward to continuing our journey to better mental health. We want to ensure that everyone at Dolia feels supported and able to talk about their mental wellbeing at work. Through all this, we hope to discover what truly makes a “happy head”.
