Meet Oli

The Dolia team is growing again! Our newest staff member is Oli, Junior Front-End Developer and Designer. I asked Oli five quick questions to help us find out more about him and what his job role involves.

What does your new job role involve?

As a Junior Front-End Developer and Designer I am at the beginning of my web development journey so a crucial part of my role is learning and developing my skillset by working closely with experienced developers. On a day to day basis, I assist with website updates and implementation of new features/content for both existing and new clients. More recently I have been given the creative freedom to design and develop page concepts from scratch, that look both appealing and serve the business needs of our clients, once I complete these tasks our Design and Development Director Joe will go through and do a final sign off to ensure the design is looking great and ready to be published.

Where were you working/what were you doing before Dolia?

I have had a very mixed career before joining Dolia and worked in several industries including sales, marketing and logistics. However the main sector I worked in was hospitality, in which I have 10+ years’ experience. My job prior to joining Dolia and pre-pandemic was as a live-in pub manager, needless to say this was completely different and came with its own set of challenges, overall it was a fantastic experience which taught me a lot but ultimately my passion was in web development and I knew that this is what I wanted to be doing long term.

What do you get up to in your spare time?

In my spare time you will usually find me chilling out on the sofa watching Netflix or embracing my inner nerd and playing video games. I also like to keep active and enjoy most sports whether it be going for a run in the country, a session in the gym or playing football which I do once a week. Socially I love nothing more than going down the pub with my friends and family or trying out different bars and restaurants. Travelling is also something that I love to do and I have been fortunate enough to travel to many different countries and continents, my favourite places so far are Australia, Thailand, Barbados and South Africa, next up on the bucket list is Iceland.

How are you finding the role so far?

As this is my first web development role I was expecting a huge amount of challenges and a steep learning curve, the position certainly hasn’t disappointed. So far I have been involved in numerous projects and a wide range of tasks, utilising various new systems and tools. Whilst the role is challenging, it is also incredibly rewarding and I am really enjoying learning from those around me and developing my skillset every day. There is no better feeling than solving a complex coding problem, something I would compare to scoring a goal in football!

What are you most looking forward to about working here?

The thing I am most excited about with regards to the role is the opportunity to learn and progress, I am inquisitive by nature and when I see something that looks amazing (could be a certain design or animation) I enjoy learning how it works. I really look forward to working on new and existing projects alongside the team and creating some amazing websites here at Dolia.

It's great to have Oli as part of the Dolia team and we are all looking forward to working with him. Welcome Oli!
